Feng Shui: Create A Retreat - A Place to Nurture Your Spirit

By Jeanine Byers

"Create a room or nook where you can reflect, be quiet, go inside and get centered. In your daily life, you have so much to think about and so much to do. Between work, children, errands, and meals, you hardly have a moment for yourself. This is why you must have a special place to renew your connection with your inner self & spirit" -- Jayme Barrett, Feng Shui Your Home

If you're thinking that you'd have to change a whole room around or totally re-decorate, that's not true at all. So don't put it off any longer! To start, all you need is a chair and an table. And on the table, you'll put everything you need to create your retreat...

  • Aromatherapy candles
  • Natural stones or crystals
  • A CD player with music that soothes or comforts you
  • Fresh flowers or a small plant
  • Inspirational reading
  • A journal and a pen

Once you have some of those items gathered together, you're ready to get started. Now, here are some tips so that you can enjoy your sacred space...

  • Don't wait to have an hour's block of time--take a 5-minute break, take 10 minutes, 15--whatever time you have, and let yourself relax and absorb the energy of your space.
  • Turn off both the ringer and the TV.
  • Clear as much clutter as you can so you won't be distracted by it while you're trying to relax.
  • Pop popcorn and rent a movie for the kids. Maybe your 10 minutes will become a half hour of solitude, serenity and peace.
